Charles Ray Cooper, known as “Papa,” was born in 1927 in Groesbeck, Texas. He dropped out of school in the 6th grade to help his family. He learned how to read by reading his bible each day. He always greeted everyone with a smile and a hug. He was the grandson of Papa Nelse which is Tanzania Coffee. We chose to name our Coffee Roastery after Charles Ray because he introduced his grandchildren to coffee with milk and sugar while only using a level teaspoon in his coffee. He could drink coffee any time of the day. He was known to drink coffee while working in the field. Papa used to say “If you take care of how it looked, you take care of how it is”.
